Hayling Island

A short break to recharge

Needing a little break to recharge we looked at Brit Stops to find somewhere to stay, somewhere we’d never been to before, finding a nice looking pub on Hayling Island to park up in the van for the night.

As well as booking us in to stay, I booked us a table for dinner on the Friday night – always a nice thing to do when using a pub from Brit Stops as the stop-over is free so why not put some money over the bar – and both of us looked forward to a short break at the West Town Inn.

We’d never been to Hayling Island before and once there we popped into the pub for a drink and some lunch before heading out in the drizzle to walk to the beach to stretch our legs, and Snow’s too. The rain wasn’t too bad but spotting the Inn on the Beach we made our way there for a drink and break from the wet, joining lots of other people getting out of the rain.

Dinner was really nice – so filling! – and the staff couldn’t do enough to help. Oh, and the pub was super dog friendly! I had the Mighty mac & cheese! Two 3oz beef patties, creamy mac & cheese, bacon, crispy fried onions and Southern-style gravy – it was lush! Shelli had the Mushroom bourguignon pie; again, really nice and a nice change to the normal vegan pub offerings.

The night in the van was quiet. There was a little noise first thing in the morning but nothing too mad at all. We cooked breakfast in the van before heading out for another walk to the beach, this time making it along the beach as the weather was much nicer than the previous day.

We had some lunch at the Inn on the Beach, again really nice, so that we didn’t have to stop on the way home. When we were done we walked back to the West Town Inn, said a huge thank you to the staff as they were sat outside having a smoke before their day got too busy, and got on the road back home.

All in all a really nice break from the madness that is life, and somewhere I’d definitely go back to to chill out for a night or two.
