With some free time on our hands we took the pooch out for a walk somewhere we’d not been to before – Minster Lovell – taking in the river Windrush and surrounding countryside.
After parking up at Wash Meadow we headed out across the fields to check out Minster Lovell Hall, built in the 1430s by William, Baron of Lovell and Holand – one of the richest men in England. The hall was later home to Francis, Viscount Lovell, a close ally of Richard III, and after several changes of hands the hall was abandoned and eventually demolished in the 18th century, leaving the extensive remains seen today.
Before making our way down to the river we took a minor detour to see the medieval dovecote. It’s not open to look inside but we walked round it and then headed down to the river and onwards towards the little village of Crawley.
Just outside the village we popped into a little art shop to look around before taking a little break at the Lamb Inn for a well deserved pint.
Watered and rested we headed up Farm Lane, picking up the paths and trails back to Minster Lovell, ending up at the Old swan for a drink before heading home.
This was a lovely little walk; really peaceful with lots to look at and countryside to soak up.
