Download 2025: Day -2

The Drive Up And Stop-over

Two years ago I went to my first Download Festival – I know, shocking right?! – going along to make sure Asri was okay as she and her friend were going. Having enjoyed it so much I thought I’d go again this year.

Two years ago I drove up and found a spot on the side of the road and bedded down for the night before heading to the Rock Retreat – they were the only tickets left that year when I went to buy one. This year though I’d gotten in early and had a live-in-vehicle field ticket, so on the main festival site this time – yay! – which meant I could get on the camping field on Wednesday.

Wanting to have a slightly more normal night before the madness this year, I booked a stop-over at the Cricketts Inn in Acresford, about 20 minutes away from the festival site. I left after to work to make the drive up and with only a few minor delays making the journey a little longer than it should have been. After finding a spot for the van at the top end of the car park I popped into the pub to let them know I was here and settled down for some dinner and a couple of pints.

Dinner started off with Haggis Bon Bons (very nice indeed) followed by their Pigmaster burger: beef Pattie, Kansas City BBQ pulled pork, pickled Red Cabbage, crispy onions, and JalapeƱos. Really tasty, but as I said to Shelli…I’ve had bigger! Ha!

Fed and watered I headed back to the van to get my head down after what felt like a long day.
