Ewelme circular Walk

A day on my own, walking with Snow

With a day to myself, and the weather looking really rather good, I headed out the door for a day’s walking with Snow. The plan for the day was to drive to Ewelme and to take in the surrounding countryside in a circular walk.

It didn’t take long to drive to Ewelme but the plan to park in the car park next to the playing field didn’t work out as it really wasn’t very big and was already full by the time I got there. So, I drove up the High Street and as luck would have it I found a parking space on the road under a big tree, which considering how hot the day was beginning to get already, having the car in the shade was definitely a good thing.

Footwear change Snow and I made our way past the church and onto the Chiltern Way, which was the original start of the day’s walking.

The path didn’t start off too great. It was pretty badly overgrown and the shorts I was wearing didn’t do much to protect my legs from the stinging nettles and scratches and scrapes as we pushed our way through. Snow wasn’t bothered at all. It never ceases to amaze me how completely unaffected she is to stinging nettles and the like.

Fortunately we didn’t have to struggle through too far and we found ourselves in open fields. Great to get away from the nettles, but it left us completely exposed to the [now] very hot sun. Snow didn’t seem too bothered but I was being careful with her, making her take a little drink every 10 minutes or so.

A mile and a half into the walk we had a respite from the heat of the sun as we walked through some woods, veering away from the Chiltern Way and making our way to the Ridgeway. It was short-lived though and it wasn’t long we were back out in the sun.

Even though I’d been trying to get Snow to drink regularly, she really is a funny little thing. She soon got bored of me trying to decant some of my water into my hand for her to lap up and it wasn’t until we came to a big muddy puddle that she took a big drink. It’s something we’ve seen on other walks, her turning her nose up at nice clean water, drinking the dirtiest puddle she can find!
