Summer Holiday 2019: Day 12

A Day At The Seaside

Weather checked the day before we decided to head off to the coast for the day so the girls could have some fun at the beach. It was a bit of a shock when we got up to fog though; we just had to hope the weather would improve as we made our way past Inverness.

First stop for the day was Roseisle Country Park which, from our pre-holiday scouring, looked like it was going to have a really nice beach which would hopefully be worth the 2 hour drive there.

I’m pleased to say that Roseisle Country Park was a little gem! We all couldn’t believe the beach when we made our way through the trees from the car park. And – more importantly – it wasn’t busy at all, even with the very much improved weather. Brilliant! We all had a great time, enjoying the down time and the water – it was still a bit on the chilly side!

Having a little too much of the sun – I took myself off for a little stroll round the woods to cool off for a bit. It was a lovely little stroll seeing lots of butterflies and an old bothy as well.

If you are ever around Inverness I highly recommend Roseisle for a day out at the seaside. There aren’t any shops, cafes or anything so you need to take your supplies with you, but it’s a fantastic strip of sand and the water’s really shallow for quite some way out.

Next on the itinerary was a short drive up to Lossiemouth to check out Lossiemouth East Beach as it’s supposed to be a bit special. Sadly though, after getting there and taking a short walk from the car park we found that the old footbridge to the beach (it’s cut off by the River Lossie) was closed due to being in a bad way. Shame as the beach really did look very nice.

Some people were wading across the river as it was at its low point of the day but we thought better of it in case we got stranded over there. We did take a little stroll along the riverside though which was nice.

Needing some refreshment we treated ourselves to a rather epic ice cream from Rizza’s Ices, a family-run ice cream shop. The brothers who originally started the shop opened their first shop in Huntly in 1914! The ice creams were delicious!
