Luxembourg: Day 3

Another Day In The City

Our final day in Luxembourg and we went back into the city to see/do some things we didn’t get round to before.

After getting the bus into town we popped into Notre Dame cathedral first, taking a look round, with Steve desperately trying not to say something too loud in the quiet that was the cathedral. Bless him.

From there we walked to the Pfaffenthal elevator (Ascenseur Panoramique du Pfaffenthal) where we all stood on the glass floor bit overhanging the side of the valley. It was a shame the glass was all scratched/discoloured as it lost the effect somewhat, which I’m sure Shelli was happy about!?!

We took the elevator down and took a walk up to a little chapel called Chapelle du Siechenhof. The chapel itself was closed but the small graveyard was absolutely immaculate!

From there we walked down the road to the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg Funicular railway. Steve had never been on a funicular train before so he was very excited! We took the train up, had a quick look round outside (nothing much to see or do), so we took it back down again and made our way back to the elevator to get back up to the Upper Old Town.

In need of refreshments we found a nice looking bar (Go Ten, just up the road from the Palais Grand-Ducal) and settled in for a few drinks. The amazingly friendly bar tender kept on bringing us different drinks to try (can’t remember what they were now) but suffice to say we thoroughly enjoyed our pit stop there. Well, except for the lemon in the drink as Steve hates lemon! Ha!

Realising that we’d not eaten much that day we left Go Ten and headed into Place Guillaume II, a 13th-century public square named after King William II. The digital thermometer readout showed that it was 35C – no wonder we’d been so damn hot! – so Steve cooled himself off by putting his face over one of the fountains…twice!

Shelli had found a vegan restaurant called Beet so we headed there, ordered some food, and had a very tasty dinner. Shelli had the Jackfruit Quesadilla, Steve had the Spicy Peanut Curry, and I had the Mac’n’Cheeze 1a. All very tasty indeed, and just what we needed after the drinks at the bar.

Before getting the bus back to the campsite we headed back to the Gëlle Fra war memorial and enjoyed another nice cold beer. Perfect!
