Summer Holiday 2019: Day 8

Inverness For The Day

With a few days of walking under our belts it was time to take things a little easier. So we took a short drive up Loch Ness to Inverness to see what the place was about.

We’d booked the girls into one of those trampoline places, booking because we didn’t know how busy it would be. As it happens, we completely forgot that the schools were back in session so once there, the girls pretty much had the entire place to themselves. I think it’s safe to say that they all had a riot!

Trampolining done we drove into the centre of Inverness, parking on Burght road and walking across the bridges and Ness Islands (again, something I did on my LEJOG walk) to get into the town centre. Alice wasn’t over the moon about the bridges as she had a thing about it, so obviously we all played along!

We looked round the shops, picking up some new trainers for Elisa as she was in desperate need of them, and then went on the search for somewhere to have something to eat.

Everything was pretty busy so we ended up in a bit of a swanky hotel for something to eat and some drinks. The hotel had the most amazing staircase with huge pieces of art hanging above the stairs. And – if that wasn’t enough – the gents toilet had a bloomin’ chandelier and huge mirror in it! Talk about not fitting in while we sat there. Did we care though? No, not at all. In fact we made sure we were more ridiculous than ever, as you can see from the funny face photos below.

Fed and watered we did a bit more shopping, with the kids looking for little presents for their friends, and then we strolled back to the van to head home, back over the bridges, much to Alice’s dread!
