Week 3

Day 13

Day 13 and the start of week 3 of this crazy challenge! 5 miles covered today, still on the A836.

The route for the day, although still on the same road as the last few days, most of it was spent alongside Loch Loyal – which looks stunning! – passing through Lettermore and Inchkinloch.

Loch loyal is about four miles long by about half a mile wide, and drops to a depth of two hundred feet. The Loch is surrounded by mountain ranges that include Beinn Stumanadh, Ben Hiel, and Cnoc nan Cuilean, all of which make for some pretty awesome views.

Pleased to have hit week 3 of this challenge, and without too much by way of leg/muscle ache as well, which is a miracle! I had an easier week last week (only running 5 days) but as I’ve said already, this isn’t a race.

Day 14

Day 14 and a short day’s running today. Struggling a bit this week if I’m honest and my head most definitely isn’t in the right place, sadly.

Another 3 miles along the A836 completed. Talk about feeling like you’re in the middle of nowhere! Such a fantastic road to travel along; and the mountains in the distance? Now they’re something special for sure.

Day 15

Day 15 of my run and a slightly better run today, managing to cover 6 miles after work.

Still on the A836 – how long is this road?! – with most of the day’s miles feeling yet again that you’re in the middle of nowhere.

There were some signs of life today though, passing through Altnaharra, by the impressive looking Loch Naver. The name Altnaharra is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Allt na h-Eirbhe, meaning Stream at the boundary wall. This is named after a stream that flows through the hamlet.

Day 16

Day 16 and another short day, only managing to cover 4 miles before my head told me I’d had enough. It still amazes me how the body can fall apart when your head just isn’t in the game!

Nothing but hills, empty road and the vast Scottish landscape around me on the A836 today. No signs of life passed through so not really anything to talk about. I still really want to go and experience this part of Scotland for real after watching the route on Google Maps!

Day 17

Day 17 and after a day of not running I had something to prove to myself. I had to beat my head after a pretty bad week compared to the first two weeks of this challenge.

I’m pleased to say that I managed to grit my teeth, ignore the thoughts of not being able to do run, and completed a half descent 9 miles to finish the week off with.

I didn’t manage to hit the 100 miles I really wanted to get done by the end of the week, but I wasn’t too far off so it’ll have to do.

Another day on the A836, passing Crask Inn and Rhian, giving the briefest glimpse of life in the wilderness that is this part of Scotland.

Looking at the map I’m getting close to half way to Inverness, which is good to see. There’s still a hell of a lot of Scotland to go before I start to make my way down England though.
