Sponsor Me!
In these mad times we find ourselves in people with mental health problems have never been more in need of help, and with the NHS’ services at breaking point it’s charities like Dare 2 Express that try to fill in the gaps and give people the support they need. That’s why I’m trying to raise money for Dare 2 Express, and you can sponsor me using my Just Giving page.

Week 5
Day 21
Day 21 and after a less than stellar week last week – I really was quite wiped out for most of the week – I’m hoping I’m back to it properly this week. We’ll see.
Today’s route took me across the River Carron and through Lower Gledfield, Ardgay, Kincardine, and Ardchronie, most of which was along the A836 again, having rejoined it after going through Lower Gledfield.
I couldn’t find anything at all interesting about the places the route took me through today so there’s not a great deal left to say really.
I am however now over 12% through this mad run, and I’m now trying to raise money for Dare 2 Express, and you can sponsor me using my Just Giving page.

Day 22
Day 22 and another 6 miles chalked up over two runs; one at lunchtime and one after work.
Today’s route was all along Struie Road (the B9176) taking me past Struie Hill viewpoint – offering an excellent vantage point to soak up the sweeping views of the surrounding area – and Dornoch Firth viewpoint.
The B9176 was a former drove road developed in 1810-15 by the Commission for Highland Roads and Bridges, and looks to be another nice road I want to see in real life some time when the world is back to normal.

Day 23
Day 23 and 3 miles down the B9176 today. I was going to do a couple of miles more than that but I had a slight twinge in my ankle again so I didn’t want to push it too hard.
It’s another 3 miles ticked off though taking me up to 13.54% through the overall distance, and 810.70 miles left to do. Nearly below 800 miles!
Not a lot to say about today’s route though, not passing through any villages or anything. Just a quiet road through the middle of nowhere. Perfect!
One thing to note after today’s run though is the fact that since I started this little challenge I’ve gone from being at the start of level 4 on Zwift to tipping over into level 8 today. I wonder what level I’ll be on when I finish this mad run?!
Oh, and I’ve also crept over 4000m of ascent as well; 4086.88m to be precise. This is equivalent to 13408.40 feet, or 46.19% the height of Mount Everest!

Day 24
Day 24 and I really had to force myself to get out on the treadmill and pound out some miles today. My head’s just not in the game at the moment – don’t know why – but I managed to tick off another 6 miles regardless.
Another day running down the B9176, going through Dalnavie and Achandunie, passing Contullich and finishing on the outskirts of Evanton, where I stayed on days 63 and 64 of my LEJOG walk back in 2010, and not somewhere I’d really rush back to to be honest.
Not a great deal to note about the places the route went through today other than the fact that there used to be a small castle at Contullich but it was replaced with a farmhouse at the end of the 18th century.

Day 25
Day 25 and after a day off yesterday – far too tired to think about running – I managed to tick off 10 miles today, my longest run of the challenge so far!
Today’s route took me along the B817 through Eventon (past the Novar Arms where I stayed on my LEJOG walk – I wouldn’t recommend it!), through Ardullie, Mountgerald, through Dingwall on the A862, and onto the A835 outside Maryburgh, finally crossing the River Conon.
Dingwall’s name is derived from Scandanavian, meaning field, meeting-place, or local assembly. In the early Middle Ages Dingwall was reputed to have the largest castle north of Stirling. The 18th-century town house, and some remains of the ancient mansion of the once powerful earls of Ross, still exist in Dingwall.
An obelisk, 51 feet (16 m) high, was erected over the grave of Sir George Mackenzie, 1st Earl of Cromartie, near the parish church of St Clement. It was affected by subsidence, becoming known as the “Leaning Tower”, and was replaced by a much smaller replica in the early years of the 20th century.
Dingwall also contains the shortest and most northerly canal in the UK, the Dingwall Canal, also known locally as the River Peffery.
Almost up to 150 miles now, so not doing too badly I suppose? Still lots to do though with many days, weeks, and months ahead to complete the full distance.
