Summer Holiday 2020: Day 10

Dundee And Broughty Ferry

The majority of our holiday had been spent in small towns and in the great outdoors, but for today we took the girls into Dundee for a look round and some shopping.

First stop on our look round Dundee was RSS Discovery, the first vessel to be constructed specifically for scientific research for the 1901 British National Antarctic Expedition. The main purpose of the expedition was to make magnetic surveys and carry out meteorological, oceanographic, geological and biological research.

We had a good look round the ship; all very interesting and well presented. It really did give you a good idea what it was like to be part of the crew that’s for sure.

Ship done we headed up to the high street to have a look round the shops and get something to eat, although that turned out to be harder than we though as there wasn’t really a great deal in the high street, especially trying to cater for vegans.

We all ate though and took a walk out to the Dundee Museum of Transport, short walk out from the centre of Dundee.

Shelli was a little worried that the girls wouldn’t find it that interesting but we all really enjoyed it. I think the girls will definitely remember it as they were all allowed to sit on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, something visitors are not normally allowed to do. They had permission to do it though before you ask.

After we’d finished in the centre of Dundee we took a short drive out to Broughty Ferry, with a nice beach and Broughty Castle. Sadly the weather wasn’t playing ball so we ended up with a bit of drizzly walk along the beach to the castle – which was closed – before we headed back to the camper for the drive back to Blair Atholl.
