Summer Holiday 2020: Day 14

Elisa's Birthday, Atholl Country Life Museum, Pitlochry Dam And The River Tilt

It was Elisa’s Birthday – the reason why we added an extra day to the end of the holiday so that she didn’t have to spend it in the camper driving home – so the first order of business for the day was giving Elisa her Birthday cards and presents, giving us one happy girl!

Sadly, after those proceedings were over with we had to say goodbye to Steve as he had to hit the road home. So great to spend a little time with him while we were up his neck of the woods. Oh, that wasn’t before he jumped in on one of Eleni and Elisa’s TikTok videos – hilarious! You can see it below, and trust me, you want to see it!

First stop for the day was the Atholl Country Life Museum, a short walk from the caravan.

The museum wasn’t big by any stretch of the imagination but it had some interesting displays to look at, such as:

  • Old Kitchen & Box Bed
  • The School, Kirk & Smiddy
  • 1930’s Post office
  • Caledonian Shield for Rifle Shooting, the World’s Largest Trophy!
  • Horse Harness
  • Road & Rail Services
  • Gamekeeper & Wildlife
  • The Doctor’s Horse Sleigh

Elisa and Eleni had lots of fun playing with the old telephones in the post office, wondering how people managed to dial numbers using the rotary dials!

After the museum we jumped into the camper and drove to Pitlochry for Elisa’s Birthday dinner/lunch at the Prince of India restaurant. We had a lovely meal and, seeing as we were there so early, we had the place to ourselves!

Bellies full we took a stroll to the Pitlochry dam and fish ladder to see what that was all about. It was a lovely walk down the river Tummel and over the iron suspension bridge, something not everyone enjoyed because it really did bob up and down and sway a bit as you walked across it!

We didn’t see any fish using the ladder though. Shame.

Pitlochry done we drove back to Blair Atholl to spend some time by the river Tilt again, our last time before heading back home.
